What if fibre isn't planned at my place?
Turn to the best technology available in the meantime, without dramatising: the absence of FTTH does not mean a poor connection. Across much of the country, coaxial cable takes over — Telenet's HFC network in Flanders, and the former VOO, taken over by Orange, in Wallonia and Brussels. That cable, on the DOCSIS 3.1 standard, holds around 1 Gbps downstream, which covers streaming, browsing and gaming for most households. Its limit is upload, more modest than fibre.
Where neither fibre nor cable reaches, VDSL over the telephone line remains an option, with markedly lower speeds that depend on the distance to the exchange. Where does fibre coverage in Belgium stand in 2026?
