Yes, a static IP address exists in Belgium, but it is documented for business plans. Proximus includes it in its four Pro plans, Telenet sells it at €28 excl. VAT a month, and nothing is published for a residential subscription at the providers consulted. Before paying, check that you really need a static address.
What is a static IP address, and which one are you after?
A static (fixed) address is an IP address that never changes, as opposed to the dynamic address the provider renews from time to time. Saying "static IP" nonetheless covers two unrelated things.
| What you are after | Where it is set | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| A public address that never changes, to be reached from outside | With the provider, often as an option | Varies, sometimes reserved for business plans |
| A stable local address for a device at home (192.168.x.x) | In the box or router, through a DHCP reservation | Free |
The second family is by far the most searched: fixing the address of a Raspberry Pi, a printer or a computer. It requires no subscription. The rest of this article deals with the first.
Can a home user get a static IP address in Belgium?
In principle, it is not advertised. Here is what the sources say, checked on 22 October 2026.
| Provider | What is published | Reliability |
|---|---|---|
| Proximus | Static IP address included in Internet Pro+, Fiber Up, Fiber Fast and Fiber Express; no separate price, no number of addresses | Official Pro page |
| Telenet | Paid option, €28 excl. VAT a month, "for all internet subscriptions" according to the Business data sheet; the help page lists the Standard Pro, Fast Pro, Turbo Pro and Fiber Ultra Pro plans | Official Business pages |
| Orange | "The public static IP is only available to Pro customers" | Answer by a community member, unofficial, question posted in April 2024 |
| VOO, Digi, Scarlet | Nothing found | Not verified |
Two limits to keep in mind. Telenet's pages describe a Business use without saying whether a residential subscriber can sign up, and the data sheet carries no validity date. As for Proximus, the page says availability depends on the technology at your address.
In practice this means a two-step approach: call your provider's support with the exact question, then ask for the answer in writing, price and commitment period included.
How much does a static IP cost over two years?
Only Telenet publishes a price, and it excludes tax. Here is the calculation over 24 months, with Belgian VAT at 21%.
| Period | Excl. VAT | Incl. VAT |
|---|---|---|
| 1 month | €28.00 | €33.88 |
| 12 months | €336.00 | €406.56 |
| 24 months | €672.00 | €813.12 |
Nicolas's calculation based on the €28 excl. VAT in the Telenet Business data sheet, consulted on 22 October 2026, with no validity date.
For a self-employed person who deducts VAT, €672 over two years is a budget line. For a home user who only wants to watch cameras from a phone, it is money wasted, as shown below.

How do you request a static IP address at Telenet?
Telenet is the only provider whose procedure is public. It is done from the customer area.
- Log in to MyTelenet and choose "Manage a fixed IP address".
- If your modem is a CV8560E and you use your own router, switch on bridge mode first.
- Enter the MAC address of the router or computer plugged straight into the modem, not the modem's own.
- Confirm, and repeat the step if you later replace the device behind the modem.
All Telenet modems are said to be compatible. One caveat: Wifi WorkPass does not currently work with a static IP address.
Do you really need a static IP address?
Often not. What matters is that the outside world finds your home again, not that the address is carved in stone.
A static address is justified in four cases:
- hosting a website, a mail server or a game server that must stay reachable around the clock;
- receiving inbound VPN connections from colleagues or outside partners;
- being whitelisted by a third party that filters access by address (some banks, public bodies or databases);
- watching cameras without going through the manufacturer's cloud, when access must be immediate with no update delay.
Everything else, starting with the family NAS, the home automation hub or the console, is solved another way.
How do you get the same result without a static IP?
Three free or nearly free routes, from the simplest to the most technical.
Dynamic DNS (DynDNS). You create a name, for example myhome.example.org, and the box or a small program updates the linked address whenever it changes. The principle is described on Wikipedia. It is enough for a NAS or a camera.
IPv6. Every device gets a public address, which generally stays stable for a given device. The box must hand out IPv6 and you must allow inbound traffic in its firewall.
The outbound tunnel. A service such as Tailscale or Cloudflare Tunnel opens the link from your home, so no public address is required.
How do you fix a device's local address?
It is free, and it is the most common need. The setting is called a DHCP reservation, or static lease.
In the box or router interface, find the device in the connected-devices list, then tie its MAC address to a local address of your choice, outside the automatic range. The device then always receives the same address at home, which is essential for a reliable port forward. The principle is that of DHCP. Menus differ from one model to another: look for "DHCP", "reservation" or "lease".
If the provider's box does not offer this setting, a personal router will, as our guide to replacing the box with your own router explains.
Brussels, Flanders, Wallonia: which providers can you sign up with?
The option depends on the provider, so on your address. With fibre available at about 78% in Brussels, 71% in Flanders and 44% in Wallonia in mid-2026 (figures keep moving), your street's catalogue decides.
| Region | Providers generally available | What it means for a static IP |
|---|---|---|
| Flanders | Proximus (Fiberklaar) and Telenet (Wyre network) | Business option at both; to be requested |
| Brussels | Proximus, Telenet, VOO, Orange depending on the street | The widest choice |
| Wallonia | Proximus (Unifiber), VOO or Orange cable | Proximus Pro or nothing documented |
The BIPT atlas (the Belgian telecom regulator, IBPT in French) lets you check what runs past your door.
Which mistakes should you avoid before paying?
- Confusing a static address with a reserved local address: the second is free.
- Paying €28 a month for a NAS that a DynDNS name already reached.
- Forgetting bridge mode on a Telenet CV8560E modem when a personal router sits behind it.
- Believing an address that has been stable for six months is contractually static: it can change at the next restart.
- Neglecting security: a reachable static address is a port exposed all the time. Strong password, updates, VPN access rather than an open port.
To go further, strict, moderate and open NAT explains why a console stays unreachable behind some boxes.
